This has been one of our family favorites for years — the chocolate-marshmallow combination is delicious!


Makes approx 2 dozen cookies

1 3/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans
halved marshmallows

Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cocoa. Cream together sugar and shortening. Add egg, vanilla and milk mixing well. Mix in dry ingredients. Add nuts. Drop by teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets. Bake 8 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Remove cookie sheet and gently press half of a large marshmallow, cut side down, on each cookie. Bake 2 minutes (NO MORE). Cool. Frost with icing (and top with pecan half if desired).

To make icing: Combine 5 teaspoons cocoa, 2 cups powdered sugar, dash of salt, 3 tablespoons melted butter and 4 tablespoons light cream (or milk).
